Lukas Drapier has already returned to Spain. This weekend, he participates near Huesca, in the north of the country, in the Challenge of Guara. The previous weekend, the Lescar VS rider had taken 5th place in the Tour of Alicante, in the south of the Iberian Peninsula this time (see rankings). “I had no particular ambition there, he assures DirectVelo. I felt good during the race. This is my first result of the season, it gives concrete form to the work I do all week. I am satisfied”. It is therefore on the ground that the member of the N3 club discovered his ability to chain the stages. “It was my first three day race. I wanted to take the day to day steps and see what I could do. I just knew that there was a lot of elevation on the second stage and that it might suit me”.
And to be efficient, Lukas Drapier was able to count on a tight-knit team. “The guys did a good job, especially on the second stage. It was great. We managed to run together and that’s what the sports directors expect of us so we’re all really happy.”. For the Pyrenean, the evaluation of the level on this Tour of Alicante requires a comparison with the events of his region. “It was not as hard as a race like the Basque boom for example. But it rolled hard and it never unplugged. It was pretty hard because once it left, it was all the way to the end”.
“WELL TO DO AROUND PYRENEAN PIEDMONT”
Arrived during the offseason at Lescar VS, the former Tarbes Cycliste Competition rider started in his new colors in February on the … Basque boom. For the 20-year-old, participating in such races was a long-term goal a few months ago. “The goal I had washave to spend in the DN next year. I achieved this goal early in the season. Now that’s just a bonus. I take experience. I’ve only been riding a bike for two years. I do as much shopping as possible and I learn”.
Lukas Drapier came to cycling after falling in motocross, the discipline he previously practiced. “Pascal Baudron and Gilbert Duclos-Lassalle had a big role in this opportunity to run in the DN. Now it’s all fun”, He insists. While it is reassured vis-à-vis its level in stage races, the Tarbais keeps the Pyrenees in its sights. “I know I can get past the three day races. The Pyrenean Piedmont Tour will arrive quickly. One of the stages starts right next to my house. There will be my family and my friends. I want to do well there”.
