/ world today news/ A two-day seminar “Business in the USA – practical guidelines for exporting and entering the American market” will be organized in two weeks by the wife of Economy Minister Bozhidar Lukarski – Iva Yordanova-Lukarski.
It turns out that employees from the department of Bozhidar Lukarski are also involved in the implementation of the minister’s private consulting activity. And the event itself will be held on the territory of “Sofia Tech Park”, in which the Ministry of Economy is the main shareholder.
“The Bulgarian market is small. And any business that wants to have a steady income and grow quickly has to look outside. The main market for Bulgarian exporters is the European Union, but this is far from the only possibility. Although it is further away, the US also offers significant opportunities to native entrepreneurs”. This is just part of the announcement for the two-day seminar that “Next Station: Bulgaria” EOOD is organizing on October 24 and 25, 2016 in the Laboratory Complex of “Sofia Tech Park”. The sole owner of the organizing company is Bozhidar Lukarski’s wife – Iva. The company was registered in August 2015 and by all accounts the upcoming event appears to be the minister’s wife’s first attempt to enter the consulting business.
Bulgarian producers and traders who wish to find out how they can touch the “American dream” or simply the American market will have to pay a participation fee. For participation in the lectures on the first day and for inclusion in the trade exhibition on the second day, the fee is BGN 400, excluding VAT. Companies that are members of KRIB enjoy a discount and the fee is BGN 320, excluding VAT. The price includes lunch on the first day. For a one-hour individual “tete-a-tete” consultation with a lecturer, the fee is BGN 1,000, excluding VAT. The money must be transferred by October 20 to the account of “Next station: Bulgaria” of Iva Yordanova-Lukarski.
Three representatives of a private American company specializing in consulting and legal services have been announced as keynote speakers.
There are also three Bulgarian lecturers – two of them are represented as representatives of the Ministry of Economy, and the third is the wife of the Minister of Economy.
The head of the Commercial Service at the Bulgarian Embassy in Washington, Ivo Konstantinov, will have to return from the USA to participate in the seminar. Vladimir Karolev, who is also registered as a lecturer, will also have to separate from the time of advisor to the Minister of Economy. The engagement of civil servants in the person of the two representatives of the Ministry of Economy in a private consulting project raises the question, at the very least, why such a forum, free of charge, should not be organized by the department itself or by the Executive Agency for the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises. Moreover, among the strategic goals of IANMSP is support for effective foreign economic cooperation, as well as “improving the export positions of small and medium-sized enterprises”. One of the possible answers to why this was not done by the Executive Agency for the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises, but organized for commercial purposes by the wife of the Minister of Economy, can be found in the fact that the Executive Agency is under the Ministry of Economy. And there is a reason, because only a month ago it was Bozhidar Lukarski on a working visit to the USA. After his meetings behind the Ocean, the Minister of Economy even boasted that he had discussed the possibilities of supplying Bulgarian goods to the retail outlets of the world’s largest retail chain, Walmart. Instead of Lukarski reporting and presenting the possibilities for access of Bulgarian goods to the American market, it seems that his wife intends to do this, for a fee. Iva Yordanova-Lukarski is among the six lecturers at the seminar.
The Ministry of Economy will still have to explain whether it considers it proper to hold an event organized by the Minister on the territory of a state company of which the Minister of Economy is the principal. In recent months, the Ministry of Economy, led by Bozhidar Lukarski, undertook a number of changes in the management of the company “Sofia Tech Park”.
BGNES recalls that, in addition to being an adviser in the official government of Georgi Bliznashki, Yordanova-Lukarski also presents herself as the founder of the Bulgarian-American Business Association. Two years ago, Yordanova failed to remain at the head of the State Agency for Bulgarians Abroad, where she was appointed by the acting Prime Minister. Due to the strong reaction of Bulgarians abroad, Yordanova was forced to withdraw.
