London –
Faulty goals Romelu Lukaku still going on Chelsea beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0. However, Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel continued to praise Lukaku’s appearance.
In the match at Stamford Bridge, Sunday (23/1/2022), victory Chelsea decided by goals from Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva after the break. Lukaku played the full 90 minutes with a record of three shots (1 on target) and only lost the ball twice.
However, Lukaku has not been able to add to his goal coffers. The Belgian top striker means that he has failed to break into the opponent’s goal for five games.
Romelu Lukaku has scored just eight goals in 24 appearances for Chelsea since his 115 million euro move from Inter Milan in the summer. The last time Lukaku carved his name on the scoreboard was when he scored against Brighton in a 1-1 draw on 29 December.
“It was a very good team performance from him. He is very reliable and puts in a lot of effort,” said Tuchel on Chelsea’s official website. “This is a little story from our team.”
“I felt that we worked really hard off the ball and sometimes maybe not full of confidence or a calm mind when going into the opponent’s box. However, his effort is something we call the benchmark and standard for us. So he gave everything in terms of team effort.”
Thanks to the victory over Tottenham, Chelsea remains in third place in the standings with 47 points from 24 matches. Tuchel not only obliged to bring his team to finish in the top four but at the same time sharpen Romelu Lukaku again.
“His biggest challenge right now is probably Lukaku. I think he has to straighten it out because I watched him today and again there were moments where he didn’t have that confidence, that belief. But he’s definitely a player looking for a goal and confidence,” said former Premier League star Jamie Redknapp.
