Lukaku, Onana and Boyata also drop out for the match against Poland | UEFA Nations League

A day after the game against Wales, the football association announced that with Romelu Lukaku, Dedryck Boyata and Amadou Onana, three more Red Devils are dropping out for the game against Poland.

National coach Roberto Martinez said a day earlier that Kevin De Bruyne, Yannick Carrasco and Thomas Meunier would no longer play in the fourth game of this international break.

“De Bruyne has given enough, so has Carrasco,” the national coach said. “Meunier played two games after not playing for three months. We can’t force anyone.” Roberto Martinez now also adds Dedryck Boyata to that list.

Romelu Lukaku injured his ankle against the Netherlands after 27 minutes. He missed the matches against Poland (in Brussels) and Wales, but the national coach kept hoping that the striker would have recovered for the match in Poland. That turned out to be a vain hope.

According to the football association, Boyata and Onana are also both “not match fit” for the game against Poland.

Onana made his debut against the Orange squad, the defensive midfielder was allowed to come in at halftime. He also did not come out unscathed from the duel with the Orange, he experienced pain in the thigh.

For De Bruyne, who was not too keen to play in the Nations League after a long season, peace is welcome after yesterday’s draw against Wales. “I have been released and can go home,” he said.

“I have played three matches for almost 90 minutes. Physically I am okay and I would have liked to play the last game against Poland, but it is the decision of the coach. Everyone was replaced, except Axel (Witsel, red) and me, so I understand.”

De Bruyne would rather have said goodbye to the national team with a victory. “It is a pity about the late equalizer. We checked at the beginning of the second half, but then we forgot to play football.”

“With all the substitutions in the team, it was not the worst performance. We missed some automatisms and all players have already played many matches.”
