“I talk to Sergio almost every day,” Luka Modric revealed to Spanish radio station COPE. Before yesterday’s Champions League game against PSG (3-1), the Croatian was hoping for a face-to-face meeting with his buddy. “It will be nice to see him again. The Bernabeau must welcome him with love because Sergio is a legend at the club, one of the best defenders in their history.”
Ramos was unable to do anything against his old comrades last night as he remains injured. However, the last few months have not shaken his legend status when it comes to Modric. “I don’t want to offend anyone but for me he is the best defender that has ever played for Real Madrid.”

Sergio Ramos: For Modric, he messed with Ronaldo
How close the friendship between Ramos and Modric is was already evident in 2018 when the latter won the Ballon d’Or. As reigning vice world champion and Champions League winner, he left Cristiano Ronaldo behind, among others. When CR7 then behaved ingloriously, Ramos broke off contact with his former teammate for over two years.
“There are few players I’m as proud to have in my squad as I am with Modric,” Ramos told the Daily Mail in 2018. “He’s a great friend and a great player. He’s one of the few players I’m as happy to see win as if I’d been given the award myself.”
Should Modric win the Champions League again in just over two months, it would also be a triumph for Ramos. A nice consolation after the round of 16 of his Parisians.
