Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva: I expect Brazil and China to maintain good relations during my third term as president –

/ world today news/ Recently, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is visiting China, in an exclusive interview with the China Media Group stated that during his first and second terms as president, China and Brazil maintained good relations. He hopes that this will continue during his third term in office.

Speaking about the New BRICS Development Bank, Lula da Silva said there is no need for large economies like China and Brazil to make payments and transactions in US dollars. “We are able to create a single currency system where the central banks of both countries can make settlements with their national currencies,” he said.

Regarding global governance, the Brazilian president pointed out that currently the world geopolitical structure has changed. The world needs decisive global governance, especially when discussing two important issues – peace and climate change. “Without a unified decision by the UN Security Council and if its member states do not fulfill their obligations, the climate change problem facing the world is impossible to solve.”

When asked about the Ukraine crisis, Lula da Silva said that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had suggested that Brazil sell missiles to the EU as aid to Ukraine. “I rejected the proposal because Brazil does not want to be involved in war, it wants peace. I insist that the crisis be resolved through dialogue,” emphasized the Brazilian president.

Dwelling on China’s role in the international community, he said the country is showing its power in almost all economic spheres, as well as in science, technology, manufacturing and engineering, which is important to the world. “China does not incite war, but pursues development, focuses on investment and education, cultivates engineers, biologists, doctors, which benefits the world,” he said.

China is deeply involved in Brazil’s economic construction. I hope Chinese entrepreneurs will invest more in Brazil as well as Brazilian in China. This is a way to create a partnership based on goodwill and common values,” added Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
