Dani Sardinia (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) | Luismi Cruz: “I would be delighted to be a Tenerife player”. The Cádiz winger has become one of the great sensations of the start blue and white. After completing a great year on loan to the Barça reserve team, the player from Puerto de Santa María is playing a leading role in the Second Division. Property of Sevilla, but with a purchase option, recognizes in Deporpress that he would welcome a purchase of his rights from the representativeletting himself be loved by a blue-and-white future.
Dani Sardeña: How was life in Tenerife, have you adapted well?
Luismi Cruz: Very good. I am happy with how they have received me on the island. I am feeling comfortable with its inhabitants, with the climate and with the environment. All the conditions have been met to offer my best version.
DC: Many kilometers and teamwork to stop one of the great Second Division teams. Does Monday’s fatigue still last?
LM: It was a tough and demanding match. We knew what Espanyol was capable of. They subdued us in a few minutes where the physical display was high, but winning everything tastes better. If we had lost, we would have been crestfallen for having made such a great effort without reward, but luckily the three points stayed at home. I am very happy with the result.
DC: It was one of those games that exhausts even as a spectator. How did you experience it from the inside, is that physical and talent leap compared to the First RFEF very noticeable?
LM: The game tired even the spectators who were outside, since it was back and forth, with many high-intensity transitions and retreats. We achieved the objective. It is clear that it is a superior category because of the rivals we face. It is much more demanding.
DC: Another great atmosphere at the Heliodoro. How is it to live in the first person?
LM: In the locker room we are very grateful for the warmth that the fans give us. We know that it is important that they are there supporting us. For us, we have no choice but to give everything on the field to try to give them a victory every weekend.
DC: In your presentation in the summer, you said that it was clear to you. Do you feel that he has chosen the right project?
LM: Since I found out about Tenerife’s interest, I didn’t think about other options. I wanted to come here. It’s true that there were moments when it seemed like he was going to come, but others when it seemed like he wasn’t. My intention was always to come here. I wish everything continues this well.
DC: You had a great year in the Barça reserve team, where you exploded and increased your cachet. However, why Tenerife and not any other of the clubs that were interested in you?
LM: My year in Barcelona was very positive. I am grateful to the club. It made me a better player. As for Tenerife, I chose it because it is historic. Coming here, my feeling is that we would do great things. We have made a good start. I got in touch with colleagues like Iván Romero and Kike Salas, who spoke well to me about the city and the club. I’m happy for everything.
DC: Left-handed, forward-thinking and does not hesitate to dodge rivals if the opportunity arises. One of those daring footballers who are in danger of extinction. Does Garitano give you a lot of freedom?
LM: Yes. It is key to feel important within the group. The costumes have a great human component. The coach and my teammates give me confidence on and off the field. Sometimes it seems like nonsense, but getting along with your teammates or being able to interact in a healthy group means that you can then give your best version on the field.
DC: And how is your defensive work going, when you have to press without the ball or help a teammate in coverage?
LM: I am a footballer with a type of profile that likes to be in contact with the ball. At first, it is more difficult to adapt, but we are professional players and we are going to do what is necessary in our work, putting into practice what is asked of us. I handle it well, as it is easy to play with the players around me.
DC: Who have you gotten along best with in the locker room and which player has surprised you the most, either because of his individual talent or because of his human component?
LM: I have several colleagues that I already knew, like Amo or Juan Soriano. I also have a good relationship with Teto and Fer Medrano. We are almost always together and we talk about our things. As for the footballer who has surprised me the most is Fer. I love him and he seems like a player who, if he continues like this, will last a little while.
DC: There is still a lot left, but there is this illusion that it could be a great year. How do you experience it from the locker room?
LM: We take it easy, but without stopping. We have made a great start, which allows us to be up there with the best, but the Second is very long. You have to take it calmly. To think beyond that would be a mistake. Now, it’s time to think about Saturday’s game, which is the closest goal.
DC: Candidate theorists are beginning to awaken. One of them is Éibar, which is the next rival. What do you expect from Saturday’s game?
LM: The teams are beginning to develop good dynamics, so we must value the good start we have made. It’s not easy to be there with the best. We will go with the idea of winning, without speculating anything.
DC: Tenerife has reserved a purchase option for you. Would you like it to be executed if the circumstances arise?
LM: If he came here it was because he was convinced that it is an exciting project, within a historic club like Tenerife. If the circumstances and objectives were met and I could be a new Tenerife player next year, I would be delighted.
