Luisín Martí regrets that New York stations do not support tropical music

The artistic entrepreneur and producer of the radio program “Oye mi música”, Luisín Martí, regretted that the stations La Mega and Univision Radio in New York only promote urban music and some bachatas.

Martí made his proposal in a document sent to Free Journal in which he expressed that if this practice continues, artists will have little chance to stay in the market.

“The city of New York is about to collapse in the commercial plane and the artists do not mention it. La Mega and Univision Radio have turned their backs on tropical music for more than a decade and only play urban music and exclusive bachatas, “he said.

He also added: “The sad thing about this is that, if it continues like this, there are genres that will disappear in the taste of the new generations and it is a great shame. Hispanic radio in the United States is supposed to please every majority sector of every community”

The producer of the program “Oye mi música”, which is broadcast on Sundays on the La Súper 7 station, recalled that in the case of salsa, only songs that were recorded 30 years ago are heard there. “If someone complains, they run the risk that they won’t put it on,” he said.

Martí, who has extensive experience as a producer and artistic promoter in New York, said: “Tota, if they don’t put them on, what’s the use for me if it doesn’t help me. It is important to remember that those concerts where salsa, merengue, bachata and Colombian music had a stellar space in the main stages of New York City ”.

Luisín also questioned the quality of many of the compositions that are being broadcast.

“And the irony of the case is that the artists who promote themselves at this time of a genre permeated by a lot of vulgarity. But now who can defend us? ”He wondered.

Although he recognized the reach and penetration of social networks, as alternative means for the dissemination of musical content, he considered that the stations continue to play an important role in the marketing of artists.

“I remember that a group was created made up of industry professionals where there were radio directors, musicians, singers, promoters with the purpose of helping to find a way out of what we are proposing, but it ended without positive results because did nothing, “he said.

Excuses

Luisín Martí commented that to justify the new policy for the promotion of tropical music, they have meant that there are no new talents or that there are no record labels to develop marketing strategies.

“Hundreds of new singers and songwriters come out every year. The absence of the labels doesn’t matter. On the contrary, now it is cheaper to record and upload it to digital platforms from a computer without the logistics of dozens of employees that a record company had. The radio must help emerging talent and with the passage of time the results will be seen ”, he stated.
