Luis Suarez made an unremarkable debut for Inter Miami alongside pal Lionel Messi.
The 36-year-old striker was in the starting line-up in the MLS club’s 0-0 draw against the El Salvador national team, but was hardly able to make an impact. At halftime he was substituted like Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
Suarez came to Florida just a few weeks ago from Gremio Porto Alegre in Brazil, where the former FC Barcelona star quartet with the Uruguayan, Messi, Busquets and Alba was reunited.
Miami narrowly avoids defeat
Miami began its series of friendly matches at the Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador in preparation for the coming season in the North American Professional League (MLS) and narrowly avoided defeat. A well-placed header from Styven Vasquez hit the crossbar (83rd minute).
The next test for Miami will take place on Monday, the opponent is FC Dallas. Afterwards, games against Al-Hilal (January 29th) and Al-Nassr (February 1st) with world star Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia are on the agenda. Further test matches are planned, Miami’s first competitive game is on February 21st against Real Salt Lake.
