Luis Suárez reveals the favors he received from Neymar and Messi to become the top scorer in European leagues

Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez, who recently decided to stop playing for his country’s national team, revealed in the last few hours some ‘favors’ he received from Argentine Lionel Messi and Brazilian Neymar when the three coincided in Barcelona of Spain.

Suarez stated that Messi and Neymar were key teammates for him to win the Golden Bootwhich rewards the top scorer in European leagues during the 2015-2016 season when he scored 40 goals.

“Messi and Neymar made me win a Golden Boot. Leo let me take penalties so I could win the prize. They both came to the goal to score and ‘watched’ where I was coming from, there was no ego on either side. The three of us were happy,” said Suárez, according to the renowned sports journalist Juan Pablo Varsky.

The Uruguayan showed this in this way the generosity and connection that the three players had on the pitch when they formed part of the Catalan club’s fearsome forward line which was known as the MSN.

Suárez ended his cycle with the Uruguayan national team after announcing his retirement last Monday, September 2, during a press conference held at the headquarters of ‘la celeste’ in Montevideo.

The ‘Gunman’ assured that Last Friday’s game against Paraguay in the South American Qualifiers would be his last match wearing the colors of his country.

In this way, it was learned that the attacker will not travel to Maturín to face Venezuela this Tuesday for the eighth date of the qualifier.

Suárez was moved to tears when revealing the end of his career with the Uruguayan team, which he joined more than 17 years ago.

The forward explained that “I had been analyzing” the decision for some time until I concluded that “it was the right time.”

Suárez, it should be remembered, played in four World Cups, including the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where Uruguay finished fourth. He also played in five Copa Américas: he won the 2011 Copa América in Argentina and finished third in the recent 2024 Copa América in the United States.
