Jakarta –
Indonesia managed to advance to the final round AFF Cup 2020. Former coach of the Red and White team, Luis Milla, expressed his support from Spain.
Indonesia reached the final after beating Singapore in the semifinals 5-3 on aggregate. The two teams drew 1-1 in the first leg and Indonesia won 4-2 in the second meeting.
This is also Indonesia’s sixth final in the AFF Cup. Indonesia previously made it to the finals in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010 and 2016 without anyone ending up as champions.
Indonesia’s performance in the AFF Cup is also still being watched by Milla, who had coached Indonesia for the 2017 SEA Games and 2018 Asian Games. Milla said that the team made by Shin Tae-yong had done an extraordinary job and hoped to become a champion.
“Congratulations @PSSI. Great job. Good luck for the last match and I fully support Spain #KitaGaruda,” Milla wrote on her social media account, which also accompanied the Indonesian flag.
Indonesia met Thailand in the 2020 AFF Cup final. This was the fourth meeting between the two teams in the final match.
Thailand is the king of the AFF Cup with five titles. Indonesia is only listed as the most runner-up country.
Shin Tae-yong hopes that his players will not be nervous about the first final on 29 December 2021 and the second on 1 January 2022. All will take place at the National Stadium, Singapore.
“Indeed, many players are new to the national team and tomorrow will be their first big game. Tomorrow’s match will certainly have a lot of nervous players and there will be many dangerous moments for us,” Shin said in an interview with CNN TV.
“Therefore, with the experience I have, I will give a lot of instructions to the players to be more in control of the situation,” he explained.
