Luis “Lucho” Barahona, 93, Released from Hospital After Week-Long Stay

The actor and playwright Luis Alberto “Lucho” Barahona Rivera has already left the hospital after more than a week of being admitted to the Calderón Guardia.

The theater director was discharged this Tuesday and, as confirmed by actress María Torres, he is in very good health.

The 93-year-old Chilean, but nationalized Costa Rican, ended up in the hospital after being found dehydrated and disoriented in his home in the Dent neighborhood, on Sunday, January 7.

That day, the lifeless body of his romantic partner, actor Luis Alvarado, who was the one who took care of him, was also found after suffering a heart attack. As it was learned, both spent more than two days in that condition and it was not until a neighbor came looking for them and alerted the police.

“Lucho is very well, thank God. He is fine, he is in a suitable place, he is very calm, he is fine, he is the most important thing,” said her friend María Torres.

The actress did not want to confirm if the actor was taken to some type of shelter or is back at home, in the care of someone else.

“I just want to say that he is fine and in a comfortable place,” he said.

The actor was not discharged until where he was going to live was defined and the place was prepared, since it should be noted that he has Alzheimer’s and also uses a wheelchair after a fall he suffered in 2020.

Lucho and her partner had made a will in which they detailed what they wanted their closest friends to do if one of them were to be missing and, according to the actress, they are still waiting for their lawyer to notify them.

“He is a very strong man and he is doing very well,” Torres added.

As confirmed by another source, Lucho is at the house of another actress friend (whose name they did not tell us), who is going to take care of him these first few days while it is finalized whether they will return him home under the supervision of someone. nurse or some other decision is made.

Since he has no family, his friends from the theater world such as María Torres, Marcia Saborío, Gustavo Rojas, Jaime “el Gato” Castro, among others, are those who have been very attentive to him for many years and even more so now that his partner died .
