Luis Alberto surprises by announcing his departure from Lazio: “I don’t want to receive even one more euro” | Sports

Luis Alberto, Lazio midfielder, announced this Friday, after his team’s victory against the bottom of Serie A, Salernitana, that he will not continue next season at the Roman club. The Spaniard communicated his decision to the microphones of DAZN Italia. The situation of the Roman team has not been the best during the season, in fact, in March, after the elimination in the Champions League against Bayern Munich and with the poor results in the league, its coach Maurizio Sarri announced his departure from the club.

Luis Alberto renewed his contract last October until 2028, when Sarri was still coaching Lazio. Since his departure and the arrival of Tudor, the results have not improved and ‘the eagles’ have fallen in the Italian Cup, and above all, the defeat that has hurt the fans the most was the derby against Roma 1-0. . After this result, the ‘tifosi’ appeared in the match against Salernitana with a banner against their own players that said: “You are not worthy of wearing our shirt”, in addition to the numbers of some players.

In this context of instability, outside the positions that give access to the Champions League, although still fighting for Europe, Luis Alberto decided to talk about his future: “I hope to enjoy the last games and then we’ll see. They have been difficult weeks, I will not be part of the project next year, I asked the club to release me from my contract and I don’t want to receive one more euro from Lazio,” the Andalusian declared to DAZN after the match.

Recently renewed with the club for four years, he commented that he will fight in the remaining games this season but that his salary, one of the highest in the club, will be for others: “I will leave the next four years that remain on my contract to others “It’s fair to step aside from this club that has given me so much. I think the time has come to leave my salary to the club for others,” he added.

The Spaniard also stressed, despite criticism from the fans, that his relationship with the ‘tifosi’ is good: “I appreciate everything they have done in my years at the club. I will always carry them in my heart.”

Luis Alberto arrived at Lazio in 2016 and since then he has been one of the most important footballers in the Roman club, with whom he has played 301 games in which he has scored 51 goals and provided 75 assists. With the capital club he has won an Italian Cup and two Italian Super Cups.
