Luhut’s claim about big data delaying the 2024 election is considered as information manipulation

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indo Strategic Executive Director Ahmad Khoirul Umam assessed the claims of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Pandjaitanwhich says that there is big data of 110 million people who have aspirations for the 2024 election to be postponed is manipulation of information.

Umam also said that if the data was true, it would be better if it was opened to the public.

“What Mr. Luhut said was clearly manipulation of information. Big data of 110 million people does not represent anything. Just open the data,” said Umam in the discussion on the Extension of Term of Office to Insert the 2024 Succession held by Total Politics in Jakarta, Sunday (13/3/2022).

According to Umam, almost all survey institutions stated that the majority of the people did not agree with the extension of the president’s term of office election postponement. There is no survey that confirms the big data called Luhut.

“All the police did not confirm it. A year ago, I conducted a survey and 80 percent refused to extend the term of office. But then used vague language, big data,” he said.

Umam said that the discourse on extending the presidential term or postponing the election was carried out systematically.

He suspects that this proposal will continue to be rolled out by people in power circles.

Umam also believes that the proposed postponement of the election is related to the development project for the national capital city (IKN) of the Archipelago and is deliberately carried out for the sake of political business and power.

“Yesterday from Softbank, which claimed to invest in IKN around 100 billion US dollars or around Rp. 1,400 trillion, it was later revoked. So, actually what is being traded for this political operation are corporate interests, political business, and power that are deliberately carried out,” he said. Umam.

“This business needs certainty. Now, this certainty is translated as a postponement of the election and an extension of the term of office,” he said.

In an interview uploaded on a Youtube account, Luhut stated that he has data on the aspirations of the Indonesian people who want the 2024 election to be postponed.

According to Luhut, the community wants a calm socio-political condition as well as improving national economic conditions.
