Luhut to South Korea Meets LG-Hyundai-Samsung, this is a gift!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan made a working visit to South Korea (South Korea) on May 24-25, 2021. Also accompanying Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin and Deputy Minister of SOEs Kartika Wirjoatmodjo.

During his visit on the first day, Luhut met Chairman of the Korea Federation of Banks Kim Gwang-soo to discuss investment in the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF), to attract investment to help infrastructure development.

Indonesia already has an endowment fund or SWF called the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA) which was formed by the government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

There was also a meeting with LG Energy Solution CEO Jong Hyun Kim, Luhut, to discuss investment in electric vehicle batteries. The LG consortium signed the initial agreement which was carried out virtually on April 29, 2021.

Luhut also met with the pharmaceutical company Sungwun Pharmacopia to invite the pharmaceutical company to increase investment in the development of drug raw materials (BBO) or Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) in Indonesia in collaboration with PT Kimia Farma Tbk (KAEF), a subsidiary of state-owned PT Bio Farma. (Persero).

Not to be missed, the retired General TNI also went to Hyundai Motorstudio to meet the President & CEO of Hyundai Youngjoon Yoon.

Meanwhile, on May 25, 2021, Coordinating Minister Luhut held a meeting with Vice Chairman & CEO of Celltrion Healthcare Hyoung Ki Kim to discuss vaccine development between Genexine and Kalbe Farma.

Furthermore, the group held a meeting with Samsung Electronics to discuss Samsung’s investment potential in Indonesia. The agenda for the day was closed with a meeting with the National Pension Service of Korea Kim Yong Jin.

“For two days we met with several South Korean companies such as Hyundai, LG Energy Solution, SK, etc. who are also committed to eco-friendly and reduction of carbon emissions. I am very happy that South Korean companies will also invest in environmentally friendly fields to help achieve carbon emission reduction targets,” Luhut said in an official statement, Friday (28/5/21).

Coordinating Minister Luhut’s visit to South Korea this time carried a mission to increase Indonesia’s commitment to achieving carbon emission reduction targets.

Therefore, in addition to meeting with companies from South Korea, the group also held a meeting with South Korean Environment Minister Han Jeoung-ae to discuss cooperation to increase resilience to climate change and the economic value of carbon (carbon pricing).
