JAKARTA – Member of the I DPR Commission Fadli area responding to the statement by the coordinating minister of maritime affairs and investments (Menko Marinves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan on the President of the Republic of Indonesia. According to Luhut, people outside of Java should know that they are not forcing themselves to become presidential candidates.

Fadli Zon, known as an opposition politician to the Jokowi government, criticized Luhut’s statement. He also mentioned the issue of identity politics, which the government has promoted to combat.

Of note, in a chat with Rocky Gerung that aired on the YouTube channel RGTV Channel ID, Luhut admitted that he was surprised by the people vying to become president. He also hinted if he should be president to serve the nation and the state.

According to him, it should be known that it is difficult for people outside of Java to become president in Indonesia. “You have to know yourself too. If you are not Javanese, today’s direct elections, I don’t know in 25 years, forget it, we don’t have to strain. It hurts. What hurts ourselves,” Luhut said.

Luhut set an example of himself by not forcing himself to be a presidential candidate. “I’m a double minority. I’m Batak, Christian again. So I said enough. We need to know. Why did I get hurt?” He said.

In the conversation, Rocky Gerung also agreed with the anthropological fact that it is difficult for people outside of Java to become president in Indonesia.
