The government records an increase in the number of cases Covid-19 as well as the number of patients hospitalized in a third of Java and Bali in the past week.
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said there was also an increase in Rt or the effective reproduction number of the Corona virus.
“Specifically for the Java-Bali region, there are 29 percent of regencies/cities that experienced an increase in cases compared to last week and 34 percent of regencies/cities that experienced an increase in people being treated compared to last week,” Luhut said in a written statement, Monday (15/11).
At the same time, Covid-19 vaccination for the elderly is still low. He said the first dose of Covid-19 vaccination for the elderly in 47 percent of areas in Java and Bali had not reached half of the target.
Meanwhile, 16 regencies/cities in Java-Bali are also of concern because of the very low Covid-19 vaccination. The Covid-19 vaccination rate for the elderly and the general public in these areas has not yet reached 50 percent.
Luhut also revealed findings that showed a decline in public compliance with health protocols. He considered this worrying because Indonesia would welcome the Christmas and New Year holiday season.
“In welcoming Nataru who will come soon, the government will coordinate to tighten the use of the PeduliLindung application and health protocols, especially in crowds,” said Luhut.
The former Presidential Chief of Staff promised to boost Covid-19 vaccinations. Luhut said that vaccine injections will be intensified in areas where vaccination rates are still low.
Previously, the government extended the implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in Java and Bali. In this restriction, 26 regions have level 1 status, 61 regions are level 2, and 41 regions are level 3.
