Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – One of the obstacles to the circulation of electric cars is that there are still few because of the problem of high prices. Even the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, asked one of the automotive brands from China, Wuling to sell their electric cars at low prices.
“The high price is our challenge. Like the Wuling car, we ask for a price of around Rp. 150 million to become a people’s car,” he explained in the Investment of Electric Vehicle in Indonesia, Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Indonesia webinar, Wednesday (11/17/2021). ).
Luhut emphasized cost cutting issue already running, the way is by building an electric car ecosystem from upstream to downstream. Likewise with the development of supporting infrastructure such as charging stations and battery replacement for electric motors.
“Then we will prepare a swab battery station for electric motors, so they replace the batteries that have been charged, so there is no problem. We have list down believe we do our best, “he said.
From his explanation, the current price range for electric cars is IDR 800 million, while the purchasing power of middle-income people is only IDR 300 million.
Previously, it was reported that Wuling Motors wanted to produce a small electric car for the Indonesian market. The concept has been exhibited at the 2021 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) at ICE, BSD, South Tangerang.
This car is called the Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV), which will be launched next year for the Indonesian market. Its production will be carried out at its factory in Cikarang.
Wuling Motors VP Han Dehong, said the price of this car would be affordable for the Indonesian market. Likewise, the power required for charging is claimed not to make the bag deflate.
“This product is indeed for charging at home, such as adding an AC (Air Conditioner) at home,” he said.
Bali Becomes a ‘Green Island’
Bali will be one of the leading provinces in the population of electric cars. Even the population of conventional cars will be further reduced.
“We need massive investment for charging infrastructure. Like in Bali, I think this is a new business and friends can enter here. In Bali, we will accelerate the use of electric cars/motorcycles there … so that Bali can become a green island,” said Luhut .
Luhut said that Bali will become the island of Bali to become a green island. Where in the next 3-4 years the circulation of cars/motorcycles of conventional cars that use fossil fuels can be reduced.
The former Presidential Chief of Staff also said that the government continues to mitigate the problems from the formation of the electric car ecosystem. Including in terms of the number of prices and infrastructure of charging stations.
“We will protect, we will regulate our country to protect electric motors, especially those produced by the nation’s children … this electric car must be subsidized by the government, because I see the gap is up to 12% with ordinary cars, because otherwise the price will be high. Until later the volume amount increase until the price goes down,” he said.
