Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, General TNI (Ret.) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir on a working visit to Japan. One of the important points of this visit is related to Indonesia’s plan to establish a Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) or better known as the Nusantara Investment Authority (NIA).
“The President of the Republic of Indonesia has assigned the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment and the Minister of State Owned Enterprises to speak with the government and related businessmen in Tokyo on 3-4 December 2020 to get support. The visit of the two ministers is also a follow-up to the agreement between the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the PM of Japan in Bogor on October 20, 2020, “said the Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi as quoted from the Indonesian Embassy in Japan website, Thursday (3/12/2020).
According to the plan, Luhut and Erick are scheduled to meet a number of officials from the Ministry of Economy (METI) and several financial institutions in Japan, including the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).
NIA is an institution that will function to manage investment and support Indonesia’s economic development. The Indonesian government hopes that the NIA can promote the improvement of the investment climate, develop the value of state assets and support economic development, particularly in supporting the realization of national priority projects.
Apart from exploring support from Japan, the Indonesian government is also exploring support from the United States and the United Arab Emirates.
