Lufthansa to resume flights to 20 destinations in mid-June

German airline Lufthansa, which is negotiating a nine-billion-euro bailout package with the government, will resume flights to 20 destinations starting in mid-June, a spokesperson said on Sunday. Among the destinations served from Frankfurt include Mallorca, Crete, Rhodes, Faro, Venice, Ibiza and Malaga. Other destinations will be announced at the end of next week, the spokeswoman added.

The airline hit hard by the aftermath of the coronavirus epidemic said on Thursday that it was in advanced talks with the German government over the sale of a 20% stake in exchange for the injection of cash. Bild am Sonntag wrote on Sunday, without citing sources, that the loan will have to be repaid in late 2023. German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier said that Lufthansa should reimburse as soon as the company returns to profit. “It can take a few years. Nobody knows in advance,” he told public television station ZDF.
