Lufthansa Reactivates A380s: Those Declared Dead Live Longer

Those declared dead live longer. This also applies to the A380 at the AUA parent Lufthansa. Shut down during the peak of the corona pandemic, it initially did not look like the gigantic four-radiator would make a comeback. However, Lufthansa is gradually reactivating(s) several of its A380s.

On May 9, the A380 with the registration D-AIMK visited Vienna Airport twice on one day as part of training flights – that was a premiere. The last two regular visits by a Lufthansa A380 took place in 2010 (first landing) and 2011 (christening of an A380 with the name “Vienna”).

The machine flew that day first from Munich to Leipzig, then on to Prague and from Prague to Vienna. From the Austrian capital it then went on to Munich and from there again to Leipzig, Prague and Vienna before the four-radiator returned to Munich at around 7:40 p.m.

Also today, Saturday, and tomorrow, Sunday, a Lufthansa A380 will be waiting in Vienna. As VIE board member Julian Jäger announced, the machine is expected to arrive at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and at 6:30 p.m. and on Sunday at around 12:30 p.m.
