Lufthansa had a total of seventeen A340-600s. Last year, the company indicated that seven would leave permanently, and the other ten very likely. Recently, CEO Carsten Spohr said in an interview that he has no plans to hire them again.
The twelve now up for sale are the D-AIHB, D-AIHC, D-AIHD, D-AIHE, D-AIHF, D-AIHH, D-AIHK, D-AIHL, D-AIHW, D-AIHX , D-AIHY and D-AIHZ. These are between twelve and eighteen years old. Interested parties can contact Matthias Baschant via MyAirtrade.
It will not be easy for Lufthansa to find a buyer: the A340-600 is no longer popular at all and one airline after another is saying goodbye to it. Airlines prefer to opt for more economical twin-engine aircraft. They may be used for parts.
Special devices
The A340-600 is already a special aircraft (only a few were built), but the A340-600s from Lufthansa are extra special. In order to be able to store more seats, they have toilets in the hold under the cabin, which are accessible via a staircase.
Watch below how someone goes to the toilet in a Lufthansa A340-600:
