Shocking moment over the Atlantic: A Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Dallas had to turn around due to a sudden drop in cabin pressure. The crew acted quickly and decided to bring the plane back to Frankfurt safely.

Frankfurt – On the way from Frankfurt to Dallas Fort Worth, a Lufthansa plane experienced a sudden loss of pressure in the cabin this morning. Due to the incident, the crew decided to abort the flight and fly back to the departure airport. The Airbus A330-300 with the flight number LH438 was carrying 217 passengers and was already north of Dublin when the technical problems occurred.

Technical problems over Dublin: Lufthansa plane has to turn around

According to a Lufthansa spokesman, the cockpit crew decided to immediately reduce the altitude to 10,000 feet (about 3,048 meters) for safety reasons – a standardized procedure in such situations. Despite the drop in cabin pressure, the use of oxygen masks was not necessary. The passengers were informed of the situation while the crew took the necessary measures.

The Lufthansa spokesman stressed that at no point was there any danger to the safety of the flight. After a smooth return flight, the plane was able to land safely in Frankfurt at 2:05 p.m., from where it had originally taken off at 10:12 a.m. The Airbus, registered under the registration D-AIKL, was checked after landing, while the passengers were rebooked on alternative flights.

Passengers rebooked, flight under investigation

The exact cause of the pressure drop is now being investigated by technicians, Lufthansa said. Such incidents are rare, but the crew acted routinely and professionally, as required in such situations. (mh)
