Lufthansa cancels further flights to the Middle East

Europe’s largest airline group continues to avoid the crisis region around Israel and Iran. The existing flight ban has been extended by five days.

Frankfurt/Main. Due to the ongoing uncertain situation in the Middle East, the Lufthansa Group has cancelled further flights to the crisis region. All flights to and from Tel Aviv, Tehran, Beirut, Amman and Erbil will remain suspended until Monday (26 August), the company announced in Frankfurt. Until then, the Group’s companies will also not use the airspace over Iraq and Iran. The previous flight ban was in effect until Wednesday (21 August).

The background to this is the tensions between Israel and Iran, which raise fears of a war in the region – far beyond the Gaza Strip. Lufthansa is offering free cancellations to travelers with tickets up to and including August 31. The flight ban applies to all of the group’s airlines and to both cargo and passenger aircraft. In addition to the core airline, the Lufthansa Group also includes Swiss, Austrian, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings.
