  • Lufthansa board member Thorsten Dirks disembarks.
  • The reason for his resignation, according to “Handelsblatt”, is his refusal to forego bonuses.
  • According to the “Handelsblatt” information, however, these should make up a large part of the remuneration of the Management Board.

Digital and finance director Thorsten Dirks disembarks from Lufthansa. The former telecommunications manager first joined the board three years ago as head of the Lufthansa low-cost brand Eurowings. The successful completion of the state stabilization measure was the reason for his withdrawal, the company said on Friday in Frankfurt.

The ailing airline receives 9 billion euros in aid from the federal government. This is linked to the condition that the Executive Board waives bonuses and royalties until the state has given up 75 percent of its stake in Lufthansa.

According to “Handelsblatt”, the reason for Dirk’s departure was his unwillingness to forego bonus payments. According to the “Handelsblatt”, these should make up a large part of the remuneration of top managers.

For the time being, CEO Carsten Spohr is taking over the digital and finance department.
