Ludvig Elvenes: The Former SHL Player’s Battle with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Updated 00.02 | Published 00.02

Ludvig Elvenes, 27, has been through hell.

The former SHL player suffered from an inflammatory bowel disease and was forced to put his career on hold.

– I pooped blood for six months, he says Helsingborgs Dagblad.

It was last summer that the Rögle-raised forward realized that something was not right. He had lost weight and started pooping blood.

Even so, he waited to contact a doctor.

“Full of wounds”

Once the examination was done, the diagnosis came: Ulcerative colitis – an inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation in the lining of the colon and rectum.

– I was stupid to myself when I didn’t take it seriously, but thought it would work out. Once I checked it out, I had full ulcers in my intestines and it was just bleeding. Then I understood that it was serious. I got quite a lot of medicine and finally got it under control, although it was late. I should have caught it earlier, he says to HD.

Plays in Denmark

Elvenes describes the whole thing as “hell” and says that he got out of breath just by going up the stairs to the apartment.

At the end of last season, he made a comeback after several months of absence and today he resides in the Danish club Herlev Eagles.

– But I still go to the hospital every six weeks and get medicine and a little drip. I will get to do that for quite a while, says Elvenes.
