Los Angeles, it’s 8 in the morning. Ludovica Coscione, on this American work/holiday, is as smart as a cricket. “I don’t feel like wasting time…”. And, judging by the image arriving via Teams, she’s also fresh as a daisy. And not only because she has a beautiful face and 25 years printed on her passport, but because “since I was a little girl I was taught to take care of myself, in every sense. Nothing complicated on the beauty side: basic pampering made of cleansing milk, tonic, serum, eye contour and moisturizer”. Our chat with the Neapolitan actress who is the record-breaking TV series Sea outsidei made popular in the role of Teresa, start from here: from the meaning that beauty can have, especially for a young woman doing her job. And that she is the very social face of Lancôme, grinding out tutorials, followers and likes.
When you look in the mirror in the morning, what do you see?
“It may seem like a cliché, but more than appearing beautiful, I like to think of myself as a “decent” person. Because then in the evening when you go to sleep it’s your conscience that you look at in the mirror.”
You are young and so we are talking about something very distant, but can you imagine when you will have a few more wrinkles?
“Yes. And I don’t struggle: I’m identical to my mother. And for me my mother is beautiful even with the signs of aging. In fact, I’m fascinated by seeing them on her face. I’m not afraid of old age: with my job I know that I can play other roles, as long as I want to.”
In videos on Twitter and TikTok for Lancôme, in a few moments she appears wonderfully made up. In everyday life, is it more soap and water or more femme fatale?
“I wouldn’t contrast the two things: I am how I feel in that moment… on some days I feel like wearing make-up, on others I put on creams and so on. The certain thing is that I consider make-up a moment of escape, where I have time to dedicate to myself.”
One thing you never forget to do?
“Put on sunscreen to protect myself. I do it every day, in winter and summer: I have very pale skin.”
Lancôme is a Parisian brand and will blow out 90 candles next year. Did being chosen as a testimonial for the social campaign surprise you?
“Yes and I was very happy. The thing I appreciate most about this brand, which is a piece of history in the beauty world, is that it is aimed at people of all ages. And that from the beginning it has tried to instill in women the self confidence. Because you are beautiful when you have self-confidence.”
She studies law. Is it true that you would have willingly attempted a career at Ris, the scientific investigations department of the Carabinieri?
“Yes, at school I thought it would be a great opportunity once I graduated. But I wouldn’t have minded being a criminal lawyer either. I have a weakness for justice. For now, however, I’m happy to be an actress.”
How did it start?
“By chance. With a workshop organized by the “La limelight” film school. Being an actress, in reality, had always been my secret dream. And I have to thank my mother who, although scared at the beginning – she is a nurse – she supported me and gave me confidence. Let’s say she was my first real fan. I was 16. And from there my career began with the TV series Don’t Tell My Boss, God Help Us, Ladies’ Paradise until obviously Sea outside“.
Speaking of Sea outside, the fourth season has just ended. Will Teresa also be in the fifth series?
“I don’t know yet. I want to read the script and decide calmly. I’ll leave the door open.”
But after so much television, would you go into cinema?
“I would love to.”
Which director would you like to work with?
“With Paolo Sorrentino. We have in common the love for Neapolitanism, which I have been rediscovering so much in recent years. And then we are linked by the fact that in Naples I live in the same street where he lived as a boy. Who knows if it is a sign of destiny !” (laughs, ndr).
And doesn’t the idea of a musical tickle you?
“Maybe… And since you never know in life, I’m studying dance and singing. And this summer I’ll take acting lessons in America. So far, in fact, I’ve worked a lot but I’ve never attended film school. It’s time” .
