Lucio Fontana’s works land in Seoul. It is the first retrospective in South Korea

The first retrospective on Lucio Fontana never organized in South Korea opened its doors in the brand new Sorol Art Museum in Gangneung, city ​​on the east coast, designed by Meier Partners. The initiative, entitled Lucio Fontana: Spatial concept, is curated by Korean Research Institute of Contemporary Art in collaboration with the Lucio Fontana Foundation and with the support of Embassy of Italy and Italian Cultural Institute of Seoul.

The exhibition presents a selection of important works created between 1949 and the end of the 1960s, belonging to the Foundation’s collection, as well as a total of six ‘Spatial Environments’, presented for the first time in Asia.

“A unique event, even more special because it inaugurates the new Sorol museum in Gangneung, a jewel of contemporary architecture, in the 140 years of relations between Italy and Korea”, commented the Italian ambassador in Seoul, Emilia Gattoon the occasion of the opening ceremony of the exhibition, which can be visited until 14 April, which was attended among others by the president of the Fontana Foundation, Silvia Ardemagni, the vice Maria Villa, and the professor Luca Massimo Barbero, scientific consultant of the Foundation itself.

For the occasion, the publication of a catalog was planned, in Korean and English versions, with texts by Sukmo Kim, director of the Sorol Art Museum and Luca Massimo Barbero.
