Lucifer season 5 review | Superguide

Lucifer is a weird series. Not because of the subject – the devil solves murders – but because this Netflix Original just keeps getting better and better. Most series poop after a second or third season, but in the case of Lucifer there is an upward trend in quality. The loyal viewer is rewarded in this fifth season with eight episodes, in which everything is right.

From Fox to Netflix

The first three seasons of Lucifer were broadcast by Fox. On this channel it was a crime series in the style of Castle in The Mentalist. A charming outsider helps a serious female detective solve crimes and the viewer knows that the two are going to fall in love one day. After three seasons, the series was discontinued and took Netflix Lucifer over.

Experiment with Lucifer

Netflix gave creators more freedom and the fourth season therefore became a bit more experimental. The episodes were longer, there was less focus on the murder mysteries, and it all got a little more violent and bloter. However, it also seemed that the writers weren’t quite sure what to do with so many characters. As a result, Amenadiel, Dr. Linda and Trixie mainly watched from the sidelines.

Best of Lucifer

The fifth season combines the best of all four seasons and delivers eight strong episodes in which humor, drama, crime and supernatural pulp are perfectly balanced. The season has a strong start with one of the best episodes of the entire series. The writers take ample time to show how all the characters are doing and finally explain exactly how hell works.

No spoiler

As the series is full of plot twists and surprises, we can’t go into too much detail, but there is one storyline which has already been revealed in the trailer. Lucifer has a twin brother and this Michaël pretends to be Luci to ruin his life. However, that is not a spoiler. From the first moment it is made clear that he is not Lucifer and Michael is one of the highlights of this fifth season.

Prominent coltrui

Michael starts off as a bad imitation of Lucifer and Tom Ellis knows how to play this beautifully. By looking or smiling in a slightly different way, Michael immediately feels like a completely different person. However, the climax comes when Michael shows his true nature and Ellis plays him as a cartoonish villain with an American accent, hunchback demeanor and prominent turtleneck sweater.

Special episode

In the fourth episode, in which Lucifer tells a story to Trixie, it gets the rest of the cast also the freedom to go wild as cops and villains from a classic film noir. The fun splashes off the screen and we hope there will be more of these special episodes in the future.

Conclusion

The fifth season of Lucifer is divided into two pieces of eight episodes. After the second part of season 5 follows a sixth season and then it is really over. That is ashame. Lucifer is finally the series it should have been from the start. A perfectly balanced mix of humor, drama, suspense and supernatural pulp with Tom Ellis as the rescue angel.

The first part of the fifth season of Lucifer can now be seen on Netflix.
