Lucie’s Journey to Finding Her Voice: A Story of Triumph and Support

Lucie’s deaf and mute parents were the wind that blew under her wings. After the death of her father, Lucie’s dream job was called into question, until the final of an interschool music competition.

Lucy felt like a song that no one could hear. Looking around on her way to school, she saw people busy with their thoughts and plans, reluctant to look a stranger in the eyes or acknowledge that she was lightly humming a song.

“I bet no one would notice if I sang a song in the middle of the street, like in a scene from a musical.”

Only two people understood Lucy and knew her love for music. And fate wanted them both to be deaf and mute.

Lucie’s father was particularly proud of her natural talent. Every chance he got, he asked Lucie to sing in front of his friends or family. And when Lucie reluctantly began to sing, he looked at the faces of the listeners.

Their faces lit up, they smiled and their eyes filled with tears. It was these reactions that allowed Lucie’s father to hear the beauty of his daughter’s voice.

A parent can be a child’s greatest source of confidence.

For her eleventh birthday, her father borrowed money from some friends and bought her a grand piano. This magnificent instrument breathed life into their usually quiet and dark home.

A week later, Lucie’s father dies of a heart attack in his sleep.

For Lucie, the world has become harder after the loss of her biggest fan and supporter. The kids in her class teasing and making fun of her had never bothered her so much. Her mother had never seemed so frightened and distant. His piano had never collected so much dust.

Her mother, who had been the only other person to support her dream of becoming an artist, suddenly wanted her to focus solely on studies. I do not blame him. Dad made her a dreamer, and without him, she’s afraid to continue dreaming,” Lucie thought.

In addition to her working hours at a local clinic, Lucie’s mother began sewing and baking at home. Lucie didn’t know how to sew or bake, so she studied hard.

One day, a new teacher entered Lucie’s class.

“Tell me your name and what you want to be when you grow up.”

“My mom says I’m good at math. I could become an accountant,” Lucy said without looking at her teacher.

“That’s what your mother thinks you should do. But what do you want to become?” The teacher walked towards Lucy’s desk, and the whole class waited for an answer.

“A singer! I want to become a singer!”

The students at the back of the class, known for being naughty children, started laughing. “Uh? I CAN’T HEAR YOU!”, one of the boys said out loud, causing another burst of laughter and mockery.

This laughter pierced Lucie’s ears, and she decided to run away. The young girl wanted the earth to fall away from under her feet and fall into nothingness. She no longer wanted to be found, questioned or made fun of.

She ran down the long hallway until she saw a piano in the art room. She rushed into the room and closed the door behind her.

The piano looked like the one his father had bought him. She could almost see him leaning on one side of the piano, waiting for her to close her eyes and start singing.

“Daddy!” she cried.

In the silence that echoed in the room, Lucie sat down at the piano and began to play. It wasn’t a song she had learned or heard before. There was no beginning, no bridge, no end.

Lucie played and played, and when her heart was too full, she began to sing. She sang with all her might, rocking back and forth, tears in her eyes.

The class had gathered outside the room and everyone, including the new teacher, saw Lucie singing the words “music to my soul” in a hundred different ways.

These were the last words that Lucie’s father spoke to her.

When Lucie felt drained of all her energy, she collapsed into the chair and burst into tears. Her teacher rushed to hug her, and all the kids in her class followed.

A week later, Lucie’s mother was cleaning her schoolbag when she noticed a brochure in one of the notebooks.

This is an invitation to the final of an interschool musical competition. Lucy’s mother was impressed to see celebrity names, including that of the evening’s host. But when she got to the bottom of the brochure, she was shocked to see Lucie’s name among the finalists.

“I thought I asked you not to waste your time on this type of activity! Lucy could read the anger in her mother’s gestures.

“Do what you want. You can be sure of one thing: I will not be present in the crowd. I know this disappoints you, but I am NOT your father.”

On the day of the competition, her mother’s face, angry and eyes full of tears, constantly flashed before Lucie’s gaze. She walked on stage, sat down near the piano and tried not to be caught in the spotlight.

In the darkness in front of the stage, she could barely see that the room was full. She only imagined a face, smiling at her, waiting for her to start singing.

She began, not taking her eyes off the spot where she imagined her father sitting. It was his favorite song.

But after a few lines, the poor girl ends up choking. It’s as if the words and notes of the song have slipped out of his mind. She was lost.

As the lights came on, she saw the crowd of people looking at her with concern.

“What happened to me?” Lucie runs away and takes refuge backstage, behind one of the performance halls.

During the rest of the show, Lucie hid backstage. “I knew I failed my mother. But today, I also failed my father.”

But this is not the case. When the star presenter entered the stage to announce the results, he paused dramatically and looked the audience in the eyes.

“We saw some young talent here today. And while each of them managed to surprise and delight us in different ways, there is a clear winner.

“Tonight’s winner touched the hearts of everyone here today.”

“The winner of this year’s interschool music competition is…Lucie Spector!”

The audience stood up and applauded wildly. After several minutes of waiting, they were finally able to see Lucie on stage again.

After she accepted the trophy, wiped away tears and saluted, one person in the audience continued to applaud. With hand gestures that no one else in the room understood, this woman waved, “Daddy is smiling up there!”
