Lucie and the story of a century

Lucie Giner has just joined the very small circle of Saissagais centenarians and is the pride of her 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Lucie Giner was born on the 22 June 1921 in Lorca in Spain and it was in 1939, like thousands of her fellow citizens, during the Retirada, that she took the road, accompanied by her mother and her three brothers and sisters, towards France and the too well known Argelès-sur-Mer camp.

Some time later, following the entry into the territory of his father, the family will meet in Saissac at the Domaine de la Rouge where they carry out agricultural work. It is on this farm that Lucie will meet Laureano Orduna, also a farm worker who fled Spain in February. 1939.

A romance was formed and from their union in 1945, four children were born, Laurence, Tony, Fredy and Martine, for a whole life in Saissac. After several successive moves in the village, Lucie and Laureano will finally find their cozy little nest in the heart of the old town for a peaceful existence.

Now, for Lucie, there is no longer any question of dancing, going to the cinema or traveling, but in fine weather, you will find her every afternoon on her terrace, in the shade of the old buildings.

No doubt that on this rather special day, Lucie let go of her gluttony by tasting a beautiful cake topped with the number 100.

Happy Birthday Lucie !
