Luciano Rondinella died, Cantanapoli in mourning

He died last night after a long illness Luciano Rondinella, singer, record company, promoter. Without him the small ancient world of canta Napoli is truly more. He was 86 years old. The news was given on social media by the daughter Clelia, the largest of an art family: she actress, the sisters Francesca and Amelia singers.

Luciano came from two historical families of Neapolitan theater and music: the mother Maria Sportelli, daughter of Giacomo and sister of the actor Franco, the father Francesco Rondinella – aka Ciccillo. His brother was Giacomo Rondinella, the star of the Neapolitan melody who passed away on February 26, 2015.

Luciano Rondinella started singing as a child entering the parish choir and, after perfecting his voice, made his debut at 17 in 1950. He made his debut as an actor in 1954 in a magazine company alongside Nino Besozzi and in the same year he turned The gold of Naples by Vittorio De Sica. Tall, handsome, strong, he was later hired by Garinei and Giovannini in The adorable Giulio, with Carlo Dapporto and Delia Scala.
Endowed with a warm and extended voice and sure personality, he reached popularity at the 1959 Naples Festival with Spring, but the year before he had already played a musicarello, Smiles and songs alongside Maria Fiore. Passed from the record label Vis Radio to Philips, in 1960 he won the Florence International Festival with the song Florentine swallows and took part in the Six Days of the Song with New in Rome. In 1961 he reached the final in Canzonissima with Saint Lucia and debuted in Sanremo with How cold, shared with Edoardo Vianello. Then he saw the future of the Neapolitan song darken and he preferred to take a step back, without ever giving up on stage to pay homage to a friend, to be at the side of a colleague, to support a cultural cause he thought was right.

Also very active as operator, producer, organizer, in the 70s he added the label to the Rondinella editions Hello (made Mario Merola sing Bovio, launched Vittorio Marseille), then opened a record shop in Vomero which later became historic, Top Music; in the ’80s he made a commitment to relaunch and restore the Bellini theater in Naples, where he then opened the Girulà, a true bistro where he still liked to perform in the classic Neapolitan, often with his daughters Francesca and Amelia. In full Chiaia was his dream of giving a home to the Neapolitan song, where food and wine were true and on the walls there were memories of the past, photos and period posters, while at the tables, until 2007, the year of the closing, you could meet Roberto Murolo, Carlo and Aldo Giuffrè, Elio Pandolfi …

Her three daughters have followed the artistic vocation of the family, Clelia is an actress (she has also been alongside Massimo Troisi) while Amelia and Francesca have formed an appreciated duo called Le Rondinella, to which she has sometimes added the older sister, in the role of director.
