A big name in French ice hockey is back in the Magnus League. The Raptors of Gap, 11th and penultimate in the ranking, announced on Tuesday the appointment of Luciano Basile (64 years old) to the position of sports manager. The Canadian-Italian technician comes to the bedside of a team in great difficulty, but which was still playing at the top of the table until recently (ranked between fourth and sixth place from 2021 to 2023 and finalist of the Coupe de France in 2022 and 2023).
Basile began coaching in France in 2003, with the Hautes-Alpes neighbor, the Diables Rouges de Briançon. Eleven years spent there, for two victories in the Coupe de France (2010 and 2013) and above all the first – and only – French champion title in the club’s history, in 2014. In the process, Luciano Basile signed in Gap and allowed the Raptors to be crowned champions in 2015 and 2017. The club had not been titled since 1978. In 2019, Basile left Gap for Spain and Italy, where he began his coaching career. For three seasons, he has been officiating in Hungary, within the U18 team of the Budapest Jegkorong Akademia.
This announcement follows the withdrawal of Marton Vas on Thursday November 21. The interim is ensured by Sébastien Rohat pending the appointment of a new coach.
