Lucia loses her temper in explosive episode of Dream School

Lucia Rijker (55), who is usually calm in ‘Dream School’, reaches her limit in the latest episode. When two students throw the cap at it for the umpteenth time, she loses her temper and shows a completely different side of herself. Her outburst is not without consequences…

“I was shocked at myself, but I was just really had it”

If there’s anyone who’s been let down from the start of the season, it’s Caithlin. She regularly doesn’t show up, often refuses to participate in classes and walks away when something doesn’t please her. It happens again in this episode. When the students get an assignment from Dai Carter from Camp of Koningsbrugge Caithlin decides not to participate. She watches from the sidelines and refuses to lift a hand.

Her behavior does not go unnoticed by Rector Eric and Lucia. When she suddenly walks away without saying anything, she is asked what she is going to do. “If I have to go to the toilet, I’ll go to the toilet,” she snaps at them. When she then stays away for a very long time, Lucia decides to take a look. To her great surprise, Caithlin is baking sandwiches for herself in the kitchen. That Caithlin is eating at her leisure, while the other students are working up a sweat outside, goes down the wrong way with Lucia.

“I’ve had it all,” she tells Caithlin. “We’re all standing here in this scorching heat doing our best and you’re lying like it’s printed. You tell me you’re going to the toilet and just sit there and eat while everyone else stands in the blazing sun.” When Caithlin then casually remarks that she hadn’t eaten anything that day, Lucia bites off. “Yes, and? Is that my responsibility?”

And her tirade doesn’t stop there. “Why did you start Dream School? To come up with excuses every time? You don’t show up, you show up late, you come when you feel like it. You really have an excuse for everything.” Caithlin decides to take the easy way out. “Well, then I’m going home now, aren’t I?” Lucia realizes what she is doing. “Yes, you would like that, wouldn’t you? That you can say fuck to your life again. You push the boundaries until we finally send you away, isn’t that what you want? That lying and unreliable behavior, I have no patience for that for.”

When Caithlin then informs her that she will not do things against her will, Lucia draws a hard conclusion. “So you’re done here?” she asks her. Caitlin seems to be quite nervous about this and decides to smoke a joint outside. When the cameras and Lucia continue to follow her, she decides to run away. Lucia admits afterwards that she reacted violently. “Yes, I was shocked at myself, but I was just really had it.”

The former kickboxer barely has time to recover from the discussion, because not much later Jasper arrives furiously. He too has had it all and wants to go home. Lucia has the difficult task of convincing him not to give up. As he leaves the grounds, she runs after him. “Stop it god damn it,” she barks at him. “You’ve been running away all your life, and what have you achieved with it so far?”

Jasper indicates that he can manage just fine, but Lucia does not believe that. “It is of course also very vulnerable to let someone in who wants to support you,” she later explains on camera. “A lot has happened. Actually, the little boy or girl has checked out.”

In the end, she and Rector Eric manage to convince Jasper that he will stay. The next day, however, it soon becomes clear that both Jasper and Caithlin are done with it. When the students go on an internship for a day, they both don’t show up. The big question now is: have they really stopped or will we see them again in the next episode?

Dream School can be seen every Tuesday at 8.30 pm at NTR on NPO 3.
