Lucero and Mijares were paid to broadcast their wedding on television

During the 90’s, Lucero and Mijares were one of the most popular couples in Mexico, if that were not enoughtheir wedding was broadcast on television, so many people wanted to be part of this moment.

Although they are separated for now, in 1997 Lucero and Mijares got married in a ceremony that was broadcast throughout Mexicoor on television, something that the singer recalled in an interview with Yordi Rosado.

This is how Mijares proposed to Lucero

In the talk, Lucero spoke about the moment in the one that the father of her children proposed to her on February 14th, Day of love and Friendship.

“At one of his shows, on February 14, he gave me the engagement ring. It was at the Teatro Metropólitan, he invited me to see the show and we were already used to the fact that when I went to see him they asked me to sing with him, they already knew we were a couple.”

The singer recalled that Mijares He handed her the engagement ring on stage, shortly after he sang a song to her.

“On the piano I had some Styrofoam cups where I was drinking water, I get up to sing, we finish singing and he says to me: ‘don’t go, I want to sing you a song’ and he starts singing ‘You are so beautiful’ (…), in one of those he grabs a glass and says to me, the people didn’t hear him: ‘so that you open it in a little while’ and I see that there is no water in the glass, there is a box.”

When the concert ended, Lucero told Mijares that she did want to marry him. Afterwards they went to dinner to celebrate their engagement.

“I opened the little box and the engagement ring (…), my mother, friends, family were there. He kept me on tenterhooks until the end of the show, I cried, we laughed. He called me lindis and on the glass he said: ‘finally my lindis from Mijares’ and I said ‘yes’. From there we went to dinner, many friends from Manuel’s side already knew and had prepared the dinner.”

Lucero said that after announcing that she would marry Mijares, Emilio Azcárraga proposed broadcasting their wedding on television.

“There is a legend that we signed a contract, that we were hired to get married and that everything was set up. The only thing that happened was that Mr. Azcárraga called us to ask: ‘you have to invite all of Mexico to your wedding, why don’t we televise it?’ I asked Manuel and he said yes.”

The actress also revealed that the television station did offer to pay her and Mijares to broadcast their wedding, although she did not reveal the amount they were paid.

“Yes, there was a payment. My mother organized the entire wedding (…), the wedding was ours. We had planned a big wedding with 800 or 900 guests, and my mother took the risk of organizing that wedding.”

Lucero and Mijares: this is how their romance began

Before talking about her wedding, Lucero remembered how her romance with the singer began. The famous woman detailed who met the father of her children when they filmed the movie “Escápate conmigo”

“We made a film in which he played a character called Mijares, who at that time was having great success at the beginning of his career (…), they called Manuel and I thought he was a great singer, handsome, I knew him and before filming we recorded some songs as a duet for the film. We were in the recording studio and Manuel arrived a little late and I said: ‘why doesn’t he come?’, I got angry, he arrived in his latest model car and I said: ‘how annoying’”.

Even though at that time Lucero was 18 years old, she liked Mijares who at that time I was older, since there is a 12 year age difference between them.

“We went out a couple of times and after the movie we stopped seeing each other. He had his career and I was very young. When the years went by and we saw each other again it was because he invited me to sing a duet with him on an acoustic album. I was 25 years old and every time he spoke to me I trembled because I loved him.”

Mijares asked Lucero to record a song with him, After a few months, both made the recording for a live album by Mijares. Shortly after, they met again to take some photos that would be included in the album.

“I arrived late to the photos because they wouldn’t let me leave the set, not because I wanted to leave late, and when I arrived he said to me: ‘let’s see what time it is’. And I said: ‘it’s really hateful’ (…), in the photos we were hugging each other and she said how handsome he was. From then on we started seeing each other a lot more.”

Lucero recalled that on that occasion They kissed and eventually began their relationship.

“I don’t know if I pulled him to give him a kiss, but I think we did kiss. We had kissed each other in the movie. I was dying for him and before finishing the soap opera we had already become a couple.”
