Lucca Sicula confirms itself as a country of roots tourism

The small town of Lucca Sicula confirms itself as a popular destination

in relation to the so-called “roots tourism“. In both September and October, dozens of American tourists arrived, in search of their roots and the place from which, long ago, their ancestors left.

The visitors came mainly from the states of Colorado, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Illinois, Louisiana and California. Lucca Sicula, in fact, boasts an important history of emigration to America, which began around 1887 and ended around 1925.

Emigration that has long been studied and documented by Pasquale Mortillaro from Lucca, passionate about historical research and, at the same time, a passionate creator of family trees. For some time now, roots tourism has become an important resource to be valorised for Lucca Sicula, which allows us to promote the territory, its history, its beauty and also its traditions.

The small community of Agrigento and, in particular Pasquale Mortillaro, has managed over time to create a strong bond with the many Americans of 2nd and 3rd generation Lucca origins, people eager to know their history, the history of their ancestors and their family trees with Mortillaro which has become a sort of point of reference for their visits to Lucca as it practically acts as a tourist guide making known every historical and landscape glimpse and giving everyone a warm welcome.

A bond that will certainly lead to new visits and new visitors in the coming months, with the presence, at times, of quite large groups.
