Lucca Comics&Games, the winners of the Awards

(ANSA) – LUCCA, 31 OCTOBER – Awards evening at the Teatro del Giglio for the Lucca Comics& GamesAwards 2024, one of the most anticipated events in the international comics, gaming and entertainment scene. The ceremony began with the assignment of the Lucca Comics Awards – the Italian “Oscars” of comics: the Gran Guinigi best short comic was awarded to Odio l’estate by Kalina Muhova (Rulez), while the one for the best comic serial went to Hirayasumi by Keigo Shinzo (J-Pop Manga). Doctor Strange: Dawn and Dusk by Tradd Moore (Panini Comics) won the Gran Guinigi for best art and A Ducks: Two Years in the Tar Sands by Kate Beaton (Bao Publishing) won for best screenplay. And, again, Gran Guinigi for best newcomer went to Valentine Cuny-Le Callet, author of Perpendicular to the sun (Coconino press), the Stefano Beani award for best editorial initiative was assigned to Aula alla adrift by Kazuo Umezz (Star Comics) . Added to these is the Self Area award, dedicated to the world of self-production and underground comics. The selected collective was Storiebrute with The Head of the Black Prince. The Lucca Project Contest 2024, a national competition now in its twentieth edition, went to Vertice Estremo by Lorenzo Fantini. Among the novelties of this edition, the Generations award, reserved for the best of comic production for male and female readers between the ages of 6 and 12 won by Magia di sale by Hope Larson and Rebecca Mock (Tunué). Among the most awaited moments, the delivery of the coveted Yellow Kid, considered the most prestigious awards. The Yellow Kid Author of the Year was awarded to Taiyo Matsumoto for Tokyo Higoro (J-pop Manga). Metax by Antoine Cossé (add editor) won the Yellow Kid comic of the year. Finally, the Yellow Kid Master of Comics was handed over to Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri. Among the most relevant moments of the evening, the special mention in memory of Mahasen Al-Khatib for the universality and humanity of his artistic and cultural message, a recognition born from the joint initiative with over 300 artists. In the Games category, Wildsea by Felix Isaacs, published by MythWorks and distributed in Italy by Grumpy Bear, was chosen as Role-playing Game of the Year 2024, Unknown Planets won the Game of the Year award. Among other awards, Simone Luciani won the Board game designer of the year award. Finally, the Lucca Junior competition – Livio Sossi editorial illustration prize was won by Melinda Berti from Rignano sull’Arno (Florence); best digital table award to Emma Casario from Castelpagano (Benevento).
