“Lucasfilm announces three new Star Wars films with diverse directors and eras”

The “Star Wars” saga continues: As the studio president announced on Friday, fans can look forward to three new films in the space saga.

Each of them will cover different eras of Star Wars history, said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, a studio bought by Disney in 2012. In addition, each of the three films will have a different director – for the first time, a woman will also direct.

According to the studio, the first new episode will continue the story of Rey, the heroine of the last “Star Wars” trilogy of 2019, played by British actress Daisy Ridley. As the creators of the saga revealed, it should be about Reys Attempts to revive the legendary Jedi Order.

Pakistan-born Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is set to direct. She’s spent most of her life “meeting real-life heroes overcoming oppressive regimes and fighting impossible odds,” said Obaid-Chinoy, who has won two Oscars for documentaries on violence against women. “I think that’s the heart of Star Wars,” the director explained of her fascination with the space saga.

Director James Mangold is said to be making another film – his film will deal with the origins of the Jedi order. The third film will be directed by Dave Filoni, who has produced several Star Wars-themed television series, including the hugely successful third season of The Mandalorian.

However, fans will have to be patient for the first of the three films: it is not scheduled to hit the cinemas until 2025. (AFP)
