The PSG central defender was called in as reinforcement after Bremer’s major injury in the Champions League.
Paris Saint-Germain defender Lucas Beraldo was summoned Thursday by Brazilian coach Dorival Junior to replace Bremer, from Juventus Turin, who was withdrawn due to injury, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced. “Unfortunately, we received the news of Bremer’s serious injury (…) and we summon Beraldo, from PSG, in his place“, declared Dorival Junior, quoted in a press release published by the CBF.
Beraldo, 20, was on the bench for Brazil’s last matches in September, a 1-0 win against Ecuador and a defeat by the same score in Paraguay. Within the Seleçao, he will be in the company of three other defenders playing in Ligue 1, his PSG teammate Marquinhos, the Monegasque Vanderson and the Lyonnais Abner.
Beraldo joins a Brazil in search of victories
Bremer suffered a serious knee injury on Wednesday during Juve’s 3-2 victory over Leipzig in the Champions League. According to the Italian press, Bremer is expected to be out for at least six months and it is possible that he will not play again this season.
Brazil, which has lost four of its last five matches in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, will try to revive against Chile, on October 10, in Santiago, then at home against Peru, on the 15th, in Brasilia. To qualify, the Brazilians must finish in the top seven places in the South American qualifiers.
