They have been together for over forty years, Luc Appermont and Bart Kaëll. They have grown together, but are also already thinking about later, if one of them would no longer be there. “We are already practicing letting go of each other”, said Appermont in the Radio 1 program ‘De Boshut’.

Luc did not have to think long about who he would endure with him for a few days in a forest hut: that is his partner Bart Kaëll. “We have almost grown together”, Bart laughs, “we are happy together and when we are not together, we call each other constantly.” Do they ever think about later, if one of them would no longer be there? Luc Appermont in particular thinks it is important to do so: “I try to convince him of this, because I am ten and eleven years older. We are already practicing letting go.”
Although Bart has a hard time with that: “I wouldn’t want to live five minutes longer than Luc. Being able to go together is nice, isn’t it?” Luke: “What are you saying now? You must go on with your life and find a younger man, one ten years younger!”
after more than forty years together, bart and Luc sometimes also think synchronously. “Sometimes we haven’t talked about something for months, and then I start talking about it again and Bart says: ‘I was just thinking the same thing!’ So I take comfort in the thought that if he were gone he would be saying or thinking exactly the same as what I’m thinking at the moment.”
