Racing’s Luana Muñoz will continue her career at Celtic Glasgow and will be the first Argentine footballer to reach the British Scottish Women’s Premier League.
As reported by the Avellaneda club, Racing agreed to a symbolic compensation with the Scottish team and reserved the right to receive 20% in a future transfer of the central defender, in an unusual event in the discipline.
“Racing is my club, it is my home and it will always be. I was born in front of the Cilindro, here I signed my first professional contract at the beginning of 2021 and I will return here when the time is right. I want to thank my teammates, the coaching staff, each worker and each club worker and the leaders for allowing me to be part of my beloved institution”, declared the 24-year-old defender, with a past at River, at UAI Urquiza, at Tyler Junior College (United States) and at Texas Tech (United States).
President Víctor Blanco also publicly referred to the transfer of Muñoz: “From the first day we have decided to bet on women’s football and this only reaffirms our project. We know that Luana is going to raise the flag of our club high”.
After the transfer of Rocío Bueno to Sassuolo in Italy in 2022, the Academy took another step in its project to export soccer players while protecting the institution’s heritage.
Luana Muñoz played 54 games and scored 8 goals with the light blue and white shirt. In the 2023 YPF Women’s Championship, which ended with the consecration of Boca Juniors (they won the tiebreaker against UAI Urquiza), Racing finished in sixth place with 31 points
