From September 18, Latvijas Televīzija will cover Latvian School youth song and dance events, inviting small and large viewers to experience the festivities on the screens, to sympathize with the participants of various genres of music and dance concerts and concert films.

“Although this is a different holiday, Latvian Television will heartily create and broadcast song and dance events! Let’s become a symbolic stage, from which the artistic programs created this summer and autumn will be performed every week for almost two months, ”says Ivars Priede, a member of the LTV board.

“Until now, the general public has not had the opportunity to see everything that the school youth song and dance groups that have been involved in # dziedundejo2021 have done and are doing this summer. Starting this Saturday, in almost two months, everything will be available to every television viewer. Thank you to everyone involved – parents, young people, teachers, municipalities, as well as colleagues on Latvian Television for their faith and energy, so that all artistic ideas are realized in the conditions that are possible now, because the holiday is where we are. The holiday is what we are! ” emphasizes Agra Bērziņa, Head of the Non-formal Education Department of VISC, Executive Director of the Festival.

The 12th Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Events # dziedundejo2021 opening live broadcast “Svētki olen mums”, which has been created in close cooperation with LTV, will be shown on September 18 at 12.00 on LTV1, REplay.lv and the public media portal LSM.

For five hours, almost as usual on the festive procession, we will sing, dance, play and rejoice live!

And this time not only in Riga, but throughout Latvia. We will connect to the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum in Riga, praise Zemgale in Jelgava near the castle, Kurzeme in Kuldiga near the Venta hub and Latgale in Rēzekne near the concert hall “Gors”, because the festival is where we are! We create them in the heart and mind, here and now!

Throughout the day, the color of the traditions will be shown by instrumental and vocal instrumental ensembles, pop groups, folklore groups and dance groups, choirs, brass bands, theater groups and young storytellers. TV viewers will find heartfelt, emotional and inspiring encounters with children and young people from all over Latvia. The show will be hosted by Māra Sleja and Dainis Grūbe, as well as Nancy Garkalne, Kaspars Ozoliņš and Arnis Slobožaņins.

At 17.00 the short film “Sunshine. A different song festival procession ”, which shows the behind the scenes, as a three-week event took place, in which the organizers and greeters made a trip through the whole of Latvia with a special holiday car. The symbol of this road – the Sun Wheel – brought the feeling of a song and dance festival to children in all regions of Latvia, although for a moment it allowed to feel this festival, even though this year it was not possible for everyone to be together.

On Sunday, September 19, at 3 pm, there will be a folklore program “Decorate the sun, decorate the bee”, the key words of which are the sun, bee (s), honey, decoration, rejoicing, harmony, cooperation, mastery. Let’s experience music, singing, dancing and sharing our heritage together in today’s urban environment. The concert program “Decorate the sun, decorate the bee” is a concert of the winners of the folklore competition “Teci, teci, language 2020”, “Anecdotal vortex 2021”, “Song of Songs as it was in 2021” and “Klaberjakte 2021”.

From September 25, six Saturday evenings at 9.05 pm, Latvian Television will give viewers the opportunity to enjoy a heartfelt together in the glorious game “Let there be a holiday!”. In a fun and musical company, we will explain which region of Latvia is best prepared and is the most knowledgeable in the facts of the history of song and dance festivals. Every week, three teams will take part in the game, which will include children and young people, as well as publicly known people – musicians, actors and ATV personalities. We will answer the quick questions of history in an attractive way, dress in folk costumes, mention songs and dances and rotate the Sun Wheel. The teams from all regions and diasporas of Latvia will have prepared their questions for the teams. We invite not only young people, but also their parents to the LTV screens, because we have found emotional video materials in the LTV archives, in which someone may see themselves in the ranks of a choir or dance performance. The intrigue of the most knowledgeable region will be solved last – in the sixth “Let there be a holiday!” in a show when the teams will have chief conductors and dance superiors. The game “Let there be a holiday!” will be conducted by Māra Sleja and Dainis Grūbe, but the festive melodies will be sung by a musical group led by Katrīna Dimanta.

Until November 6, Latvian Television will also broadcast weekly festive events created by other creative teams: a contemporary dance concert story “Above the Earth”, a costume collection “Radi, adorn Latvia”, a folk music concert “To the very sky”, a kokle music concert film “I I could brag ”, choir concert“ Song Tree ”, symphony and chamber orchestra concert film“ Symphonic decorations ”and wind orchestra video film“ Scan ”.

We will close the festival at the beginning of November with three events created by Latvian Television – in the concert of Latvian stage folk dance groups “It’s so summer!” Choices of 22 children and young people will dance a beautiful, sunny and adventurous summer story, in the concert film “Dziesmubērns” at the Song Festival shrine – Mežaparks Grand Stage – choirs, conductors and chief conductors from all over Latvia will meet. ”, In which children and young people will dance the Year of the Sun in four dance braids with an annual story.
