LSU: Homosexuals in the CDU should become party organizations

The CDU’s constitutional committee took a break after the night session on the women’s quota, and the next big decision now follows: The CDU wants to recognize the lesbians and gays in the Union (LSU) as an independent party organization.

According to SPIEGEL information, the party’s structural and constitutional commission voted in favor of anchoring the LSU as a so-called special organization with a permanent place within the party. There were 35 votes in favor and one against and two abstentions. The decision of the CDU federal executive board and the planned party conference in Stuttgart in early December have to be voted on in October.

LSU should become a special organization like the RCDS

“We want the LSU as an organization to be an integral part of our party and to participate in the political decision-making process of the CDU,” says a draft resolution. “We now have the chance to make our CDU arrive in social reality and finally to work for the rights of everyone in the LGBTQ area,” the paper continues. The term LGBTQ stands for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals and queer people.

According to the statute, the CDU has so far seven associations that specifically address the young generation, women, workers, local politicians, entrepreneurs, the displaced and refugees and the elderly. There are also special organizations: the Evangelical Working Group and the Ring of Christian Democratic Students (RCDS).

According to the Commission’s draft, the LSU is also to be a specialized organization of the CDU in the future. According to SPIEGEL information, the originally planned criteria that define a special organization are now tailored so that the LSU does not meet them directly.

According to the new wording, special organizations should in future either have ten regional associations or 2000 members. The draft said that they should have at least ten national associations and 2000 members. The LSU has around 800 members, but ten regional associations.
