LRSP: Promoting Creative Work and Reducing Social Inequality in Culture

From 2008, the writer and publicist, cultural policy expert Haralds Matulis performed the duties of the general secretary. During the past years, with the participation of LRSP, the Law on the Status of Creative Persons and Professional Creative Organizations has been adopted, and in 2018 the Support Program for Creative Persons was established. Since 2019, LRSP has been led by artist and curator Inga Brüvere.

Following the initiative of LRSP, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the State Cultural Capital Fund (VKKF) has established the target program “Creative Promotion Scholarship Target Program” in 2020, while in 2022 a study on cultural periodicals has been conducted, as a result of which the VKKF has created a three-year target program “Documentation of the Culture Sector 2022″ -2024”.

Hirsch notes that LRSP represents the interests of creative individuals and her role is to continue working to reduce social inequality in culture, including combating stereotypes of art as a self-serving, taxpayer-funded hobby.

“Artistic work in free market conditions has been economically discriminated for a long time, leaving a negative impact on the development of culture and the self-understanding of cultural workers. It is necessary to actively explain the meaning of creative work, the specificity of the process and the national importance, as well as to ensure social protection and respectful conditions that allow the creation of new cultural values,”

says the new Secretary General.
