The New York Sirens, of the Women’s Professional Hockey League, have signed Canadian Sarah Fillier, who was first selected in the LPHF selection session in June 2024, to a standard one-season contract.
Circuit officials announced the news in a press release Friday afternoon. Financial details of the deal, as specified in the general agreement, were not disclosed.
“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Sarah Fillier to the New York Sirens family,” responded general manager Pascal Daoust in the official press release.
“When Sarah is on the ice, she generates energy that spreads among her classmates and the fans in the stands. His playing style combines passion, excitement, progress and relentless excellence,” he said.
A native of Georgetown, Ontario, Fillier recently completed her academic career at Princeton where she was a finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Trophy three times.
On the international stage, she contributed to Canada’s gold medal at the 2022 Olympic Games. She also represented the country at the last four editions of the World Championships, when she won three gold medals and a silver.
During the 2023 tournament, she was voted the best attacker and most valuable player for her team.
“Playing in the LPHF will allow me to make a dream come true, and I’m really looking forward to making New York my new home,” said Fillier.
“I’m excited at the thought of getting on the ice with my teammates, in front of the best crowd in the league. I want to take women’s sports to new heights and help young girls around the world realize that their dream of playing professional hockey is within their reach. »
Fillier is the fourth player the New York team claims in the 2024 draft to sign a contract, after Maja Nylen Persson, Noora Tulus and Kayle Osborne.
The Sirens also selected Quebecer Emmy Fecteau in the sixth round.
