Lowlands builds huge solar park above parking lot | NOW

Lowlands starts in November with the construction of a parking space with above 90,000 solar panels. This gives the music festival “the largest solar carport” in the world, reports the organization Tuesday. Festival organizer MOJO does this in collaboration with sustainable energy producer Solarfields.

At present, electricity for Lowlands is still generated by generators. The ‘solar carport’ makes it superfluous. The tens of thousands of solar panels have to produce around 35,000,000 kWh of electricity every year. With this, ten thousand households can be supplied with green energy. Installing the solar panels is not at the expense of parking spaces, emphasizes the festival organization.

According to Lowlands, the yield equals the amount of electricity for over a hundred festival weekends per year. Approximately 300,000 kWh of electricity is used per Lowlands edition.

“If concrete measures are not taken quickly, our young visitors will experience the effects of climate change and environmental pollution in their daily lives,” explains Lowlands director Eric van Eerdenburg.
