A service station in Arendal was supposed to create a stir for the new station and cut gasoline prices to around NOK 18. It created major traffic problems.
– An unmanned station lowered the prices a bit and this, combined with the road works nearby, led to a real traffic jam, says operations manager Knut Odde in Dagbladet.
According to Odde, the drop in prices was something the station did to create hype, as it is new. The price was adjusted to normal when they became aware of the traffic challenges created by the stunt.
– There were a few hundred meters straight. What worried us were the problems related to emergency vehicles. We informed the emergency services that there were serious traffic problems in the area. However, it didn’t cause any problems, but we thought about the future.
Police received the first call for traffic jams shortly after 12 noon on Tuesday. After just over an hour, prices were back to normal.
– This is by no means a criticism of the station, any company can make an offer. At a time when there is a danger to life and health, we have to consider measures, but in this case it was never necessary, says Odde
