The two defendants are accused of having fraudulently obtained millions of euros through false invoices.

A 35-year-old is accused of fraud on a large scale by incorrectly billing for corona tests. The trial against him began on Wednesday at the Hanover Regional Court. The main defendant is said to have registered 23 corona testing centers in the greater Hanover area, but only actually operated nine. According to the public prosecutor’s office, he had billed for hundreds of thousands of Covid tests that had not been carried out. This is said to have caused damage of around 6.9 million euros. The man later fled to Paraguay, but was arrested there in August 2023 and later extradited to Germany. In total, the prosecution accuses him of 24 cases of fraud. A suspected accomplice is also charged with aiding and abetting in eight cases.
