Lower Saxony Civil Servants to Receive Salary Increase in April

Hanover – Lower Saxony’s civil servants get more money. The salary is expected to be increased in April.

The collective agreement for state employees should then also be transferred to state and local civil servants, candidates and pensioners. Finance Minister Gerald Heere (Greens) and the unions have agreed on this.

The wage increase is 5.5 percent, but only from February 2025. From October, the basic salary will increase by 200 euros. There are also special payments such as a tax-free inflation bonus of 1,800 euros once and 120 euros per month from January to October.

Alexander Zimbehl, state chairman of the Lower Saxony Civil Service Association, says: “It is absolutely good and right that the state government is now following up on its announcements after the conclusion of the collective bargaining negotiations in Potsdam and that the results for the collective bargaining employees are now actually 1:1 for the civil service and the pension recipients in Lower Saxony.” The cabinet is scheduled to deal with the issue on Tuesday.

The chairman of the German Trade Union Confederation in Lower Saxony, Mehrdad Payandeh, also welcomed the decision. “Public service workers keep the country running,” he said.
