Police target car victims in Hanover
–
Hanover (dpa / lni) – Police officers in Hanover took action against so-called car posers for two days in a focus operation. In the past two years, complaints about drivers revving the engine to show off their high-powered cars, said Dirk Hallmann, the head of the operations and patrol service of the Hanover-Mitte police station, on Thursday.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the police officers were on duty in four cars at well-known Poser hotspots. Some of the inconsiderate drivers – usually men between 18 and 30 years of age – were warned, others expected a fine for making unnecessary noise or illegal tuning. “Humility, arrogance, aggression, that’s what the reactions look like,” said Hallmann.
The police in Braunschweig, Osnabrück, Oldenburg and Bremen are also sensitized to the phenomenon – among other things, officials receive advanced training and special checks are also scheduled. The noise in Hanover’s city center disturbs when working in the offices during the day and when sleeping at night, stressed Hallmann. Even worse, however, is the risk that people will be injured or even killed by the risky driving style. Such a case has not yet occurred in Hanover – in contrast to other German cities.
